Bali Police Respond to Viral News of Robbery and Abuse of Australian Citizen

Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police, Commissioner Police, Satake Bayu, responding to the viral news of the robbery and abuse of a foreigner from Perth, Australia on behalf of Lachlan Briam Hunt, which occurred on January 12, around 04.00 AM Central Indonesian Time, in the Kuta area, which resulted in the foreigner being seriously injured because he was beaten brutally to the point of treated at the BIMC Kuta Hospital. Tuesday, (24/04/2023).

According to the Head of Public Relations, the news, which has already gone viral on social media, is very disturbing to tourists and also troubling the Bali peace and order society situation.

Currently, the Bali Police has dispatched a team to investigate and find facts, starting from evidence and witnesses on the ground about what actually happened to the foreigner.

Commisioner Police, Satake Bayu as Head of Public Relations of the Bali Police emphasized that, from the results of the investigation by the Bali Police team, through statements from witnesses who saw what happened to a foreigner from Perth Australia on behalf of Lachlan Briam Hunt, who claimed to have experienced robbery and abuse in the Kuta area.

Lachlan Briam Hunt stated that the person concerned was suspected of having had a single traffic accident (Out of Control), because at that time the person concerned was driving under heavy drunkenness.

This is based on witness testimony at the crime scene. Muhsar Hadi, address Poppies street 1, Kuta, explained that the foreigner at around 04.00 AM Central Indonesian Time, was driving a red Honda Vario motorbike at high speed, it was estimated that the foreigner was heavily drunk and when he passed speed bumps (road bumps) the motorbike he was driving swerved and caused the foreigner to fall in a prone position and faint. Then at around 04.30 AM, the foreigner woke up with a face full of blood and then immediately left.

This is also based on the results of the interrogation of the Bali Police team to a foreigner from Perth Australia on behalf of Lachlan Briam Hunt, admitting that on 12 Jan 2023 at 22.00 PM Central Indonesian Time, Lachlan Briam Hunt, left from Hotel Masa Inn, Bali, Poppies Lane street 1, Kuta, where he was staying, headed to the Engine Room with his friends on a Honda Vario motorbike to have a drink until they finished and went home early in the morning around 03.30 AM, on the way home he felt his cellphone had fallen, when he tried to pick up his cellphone he felt “pushed” by an unknown person, then the victim no longer remembers what happened, because he was very drunk.

And Lachlan Briant Hunt also admitted that he did not know who made him viral when he was robbed and abused.

From the results of the interim investigation by the Bali Police team, Head of Public Relations Commissioner Police, Satake Bayu said that, a foreigner from Perth Australia on behalf of Lachlan Briam Hunt, was suspected of having had a single accident (Out Of Control) because he was driving while heavily drunk and no elements of robbery or abuse were found.

Bali Police hope that the people of Bali and tourists will use social media wisely, and not easily believe hoax news that can give a negative image of Bali.
